About

Steve Marquess is a freelance consultant bumbling about with computer stuff in the general arena of information assurance and cryptography. This blog also wanders off into completely unrelated topics.

The title of this blog, “Speeds and Feeds”, refers to a topic near and dear to machinists — the speed (of the cutting edge[s] of a tool relative to the workpiece) and the feed (how quickly that tool moves through the workpiece). There is a certain poetry to hitting the right combination of speed and feed in making a cut, and all sorts of interesting special effects (noises, smells, ballistic motions) when they’re wrong.
